As we continue on in our renovations we decided to take the basement stairs down and remake them straight instead of with a turn.
We had to go through the concrete of the original house foundation and found it was packed with rocks! This made it very difficult to do so my husband had to rent a jack hammer!
My husband also finished taking down another spot since he had it already and that’s when I noticed a large piece set aside, he said he found it in the wall and it was granite!!!
It still has some brick stuck to it but I can only imagine how using granite would be cheap? I can see how the rocks would be, any market out there for rocks hundreds of years old!! Lol
Next we will rebuild these stairs to go straight down, then the second story stairs can be done the same way.
It’s such a slow process but it is coming along.
As we are building a new bathroom we needed a bigger vanity. I hate paying top dollar for new things. I can’t help it, I’m cheap, we found one online for a good price but it had a tan marbled top. That wasn’t going to work so I looked up how to change that.
I decided to paint it. I did a lot of reading and research, then I jumped in!
Last on Remodeling we saw the new laundry room built, then came destruction of old laundry room and new bathroom being built.
First we had to do the foundation for an addition, then a new bulkhead door , then the room addition.
The new room will be my new laundry room. The old laundry room will be a new bathroom and the old bathroom will become a walk through from the kitchen to the laundry room. It will have double glass doors that will go to new deck. We have half the deck done at the moment that we did while waiting for the cement guys to get the foundation done.
Next year the second floor of the house is being removed and rebuilt with a different layout, a different roof line and the addition part will go up to become the master bath. We wanted to keep the house like it was but it had so many different builds with 3 roof lines we found inside, it had been added to 3 times and not always the proper way. It was built in 1914 so I’m sure they did what they could with what they had.
We have had plans to renovate this year for a year but then the pandemic happened and it all went to poop!!! Everyone was booked, no contractors, needed a basement for the addition, nope can’t do that!!!!!
Ok now that I got that out, we finally have the foundation for the addition started.
And now a hurricane!! Yup! Now it will be another week or something before we can get this back on track.
I also learned hubby wants to put pipe all around the house so more digging has to come, but not for a couple weeks till we can get the right equipment.
I still have the perfect husband, great kids and support from friends, but I’m still frustrated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We bought our house March 2017 and since then we have redone all the floors, took out a wall separating the living room and dining room, put an 6 foot bay window in, reinsulated most of the outside walls with new windows all well, made the porch into a sun porch, tore out the whole kitchen and started it over. We had to cut out ceilings in the stairways for my 6 foot son to not hit his head, lol, and bunch of other things. The main problem besides the plaster is the ceiling upstairs starts at 4 feet on one wall and gets to 7 at the other, both sides of the house, very bad for my back!!! , so we said we had to fix it.
We finally started the process,
We drew up the first set of plans yesterday and decided besides tearing off the whole roof we are also putting in a small addition to make it a completed straight four walls.
The finished house will be 30 x 32 and it will all be usable space!!!
This is our now , Sun porch. We changed out the regular door with a set we bought used and put 2 of them here. If necessary the second door will open but only if it has to be. The third ” door” we turned into a window on the opposite wall that originally had nothing. That does not move. Lol then we took out all the ceiling boards and found just lots of just waste so took it all out and insulated ceiling. It adds about a foot of extra space on one side but makes a huge difference. Now I need to get something to cover them up when it gets really hot but it helped with oil this past winter!!!
My husband and I decided to do a live edge accent wall in the living room, we did it like a big puzzle, I haven’t decided what oil I want to use as a finish or how flat I want I want the look to be but, after lots of cutting and rearranging, this is the result.
I know the Home Depot is everywhere and have been reading nothing but bad reviews about the customer service area. My husband and I went in to get a dishwasher on sale and while leaving saw a refrigerator marked half off. We asked why and was told they didn’t have room for it, it had an upgraded model. Ok, makes sense. On coming home the more I thought about it the more I wanted to change the dishwasher color to match the fridge, so we went in on Friday night and called Sunday morning to ask about changing the color. I was sent to three different extensions and no body had a clue! Was finally told the appliance manager would b in Monday and would get back to me. Nope. Hubby called and after being redirected a bunch of times was told, oh, she didn’t work today!. Ok so now it’s Tuesday, no call, hubby calls and again, go through people to find one who says she will personally write a message to the manager and make sure she returns our call first thing. Nope. So now it’s Wednesday and I’m thinking any chance of it being possible is gone now but so irritated by the customer service I’m going to stick with it. Hubby calls asks for a manager and the one he is given to has no idea on any of it , he is the warehouse manager or something??? Hubby kinda blows, they connect him to someone and at this point we are saying, you ARE going to either change the color or just order another one in the color I want and keep the other in store. The woman totally agrees with us, says she didn’t understand any of the run around and she was personally doing it at that moment while on the phone. Ok. Great. Was going to have to wait a couple ex days but, it was done.
I worked in customer service for years, it was my thing, people, resolving issues and making sure the customer is happy. That is supposed to be the foundation in every company, so what’s with Home Depot?
Now I am looking at this fridge and very nervous, I swear it has crumbs in it, it looks used to me, not just a display model. They say they don’t do that, they do not resell, hmmmmmm.
My wedding is in 6 days. I couldn’t b more stressed. It’s not even over the wedding!!! My truck died and is not coming back, david drives a standard and I have killed my share, we need something bigger than a car anyway.
We are trying to get the house as done as possible, outside and in since it’s the big reveal!!
One of my kitties has been gone for about a month now and I have had her for 6 years.
And, my soon to be mother in law hates me. David’s ex put a bad taste in her mouth that she can’t see past I guess.
And then the wedding, we have done all the planning and putting things together ourselves. The decorations have me worried, too much, too little, wrong combo of things, will it look like a no nothing bride did it?
Then, the vows, david wants to do our own vows!!! I can’t express in any way how much I love him, how much he has changed my life.
Sooooo. Today, I’m drowning.
